If you have a car, you will no doubt want to do everything you can to ensure that your vehicle runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible. One of the choices you will need to make is what kind of engine oil you use.
Since synthetic engine oil is more expensive than mineral engine oil, more people tend to automatically go for mineral engine oil if their vehicle is able to use it, but this is not always the best thing to do.
There is a number of situations where you will find that synthetic engine oils made by the likes of Fuchs and Gulf are a much better choice. Here are just a few examples of situations where you might want to use synthetic engine oils:
When you want to prolong use
Synthetic engine oils are much better at resisting breakdown than mineral engine oils. So, if you want to make your oil and your engine last for as long as possible, you may want to consider purchasing a synthetic oil in the future.
When you’re in a place with cold temperature
Synthetic engine oils tend to flow better in cold temperatures than other oils. By using an oil which is synthetic in a cold area, you can therefore avoid excessive wear and tear when you start your engine up in lower temperatures.
When you make lots of short journeys
If you’re someone who makes a lot of quick journeys in your vehicle, you may find that regular motor oil breaks down very quickly. This is because it never really reaches a warm enough temperature to burn off impurities and moisture when you travel only a short distance, which can result in degradation of your oil.
Synthetic oil on the other hand, tends to breakdown much more slowly in these circumstances, so you do not need to change your oil quite so frequently.
When you hate changing your oil
If you don’t like changing your oil you are much better off using synthetic oils as they tend to break down much more slowly than regular engine oil in general.
When you’re using an old engine
Using synthetic oils in an older engine helps to prevent the build-up of sludge which can lead to the permanent breakdown of older engines.
If you do decide to buy synthetic engine oil, it is always a good idea to buy from a reputable brand like Mobil, Fuchs or Trachem.
