France-based energy major TotalEnergies has become the latest corporate member of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) in order to broaden its engagement with potential allies and help achieve its environmental goals.

The IRU has a long history dating back to 1948, when it was formed to promote trade through international road transport and thereby help accelerate Europe’s reconstruction in the post-war period. It now has members on five continents and serves to represent the operators of passenger and haulage fleets and develop solutions for practical and regulatory issues. Many multinational firms in Europe, the US, and China have joined the IRU in the last year as the push to decarbonise transport accelerates.

TotalEnergies has committed to becoming a net-zero business by 2050 in line with the worldwide effort to mitigate climate change. It also supports the “Fit for 55” initiative of the European Union, which aims to lower carbon emissions by at least 55% by 2030. TotalEnergies membership of the IRU will help it to better collaborate with the road transport sector on aspects where the company is well placed to act, such as developing new lower carbon fuels for the transport sector, establishing the necessary refuelling infrastructure for hydrogen-powered vehicles, and rolling out charging points for electric vehicles.

TotalEnergies also, of course, makes the Total range of lubricants. As a supplier of multiple brands here at TrAchem, we can supply many of Total’s products, such as the high-quality Total Ceran greases, so consult our knowledgeable team to explore how we can best meet your lubricant needs.
