TotalEnergies mobilises support for Libyan people

Energy major TotalEnergies has suggested it has used its resources to provide relief aid to the people of Libya, following the flood disaster in the eastern Derna region.

In a press release, the company said:

“As of today, TotalEnergies has shipped nearly 50 tons of essential goods, comprising medical supplies, food parcels including baby food, personal hygiene kits and solar lamps. Further shipments of approximately 50 tons of essential goods are planned in the coming days.”

When Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) asked for support in the hours following the disaster, TotalEnergies responded quickly by mobilising its logistical resources to get vital aid by land and air to the thousands of affected people. The company worked with the Red Crescent and NOC to transport the aid by plane from Paris to Tripoli, and then onto the affected area by truck.

TotalEnergies has a long history in Libya going back to 1954. Last year, the company produced 79,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the country on average. It has interests in the Waha fields, the onshore area of El Sharara, and the offshore Al Jurf field. With operations in almost 130 countries, the company says it seeks to bolster the wellbeing of local people by positioning sustainable development at the heart of its operations.
